COME THE SPRING – ‘Seven For A Secret’

comethespringCOME THE SPRING – ‘Seven For A Secret’
The UK music scene has always been something to be proud of.  Historically we’d be hit left right and centre by bands from the capital and second and third cities as often as the rain.  And so it goes, although a shift appears to be in progress from the densely populated to the rocky coasts and Yorkshire market towns.  Pure British acts are becoming the staple diet for the masses and with Leeds and Brighton leading the way, bands such as Come The Spring are fighting pound for pound with our cousins from across the pond for billboard supremacy.  This six tracker bears all the hallmarks of a fresh and steely eyed bravado not heard since Elliot’s US Songs.  And being made up of musicians who have shared a stage with the likes of Texas Is The Reason, Hot Water Music, Braid and Greenday can only mean one thing – hugely experienced and mature individuality that transitions into genuine songwriting ability.  These cuts are razor sharp, guitar driven post-hardcore work-outs that are emotionally charged and belted brilliantly out of sea breeze filled lungs.  Immediately grabbing our attention with huge hooks and positive energy, ‘Conditions’ and ‘Northern Star’ should translate perfectly to the live arena.  While ‘Readbeforeyouwatch’ and ‘Statues’ are anthems that will reverberate around your head for weeks to come, drowning you in the realisation that on the basis of this first full release, with the promise of much more in store, you’d be a fool not to fall for a great record with rich sentimentality and a clear path for the band to hugely successful summer.  (8)
